Tom Sholz/ Boston sound?

So what in the hell does Sholz / Boston do do get that violin sound? Is that a 12 string electric? Any other acts that sound like that? Any nerds able to dial in that tone?

Prolly had it built by an MIT engineer

many years back, i used to have a rockman sustainer. best musical gadget i ever owned....wish i never parted ways with it.

Layered tracks...or so I remember reading. If you listen close with that in mind you can hear several guitars playing the same thing.

he didn't get specific, but he said in the 'third stage' liner notes that the layered guitars were passed through a rockman, giving it that symphonic-type sound. pretty much all the sounds & effects on that album were created without the aide of synths...must've been tough to resist, since synths were all over the place in the 80's
