Was thinking about removing the rail in the front of the bed that I never use and screwing in a piece of 1x6 and attaching some angled PVC to it for a rod holder. Wondering how that would work. Don't want to bend up the metal and possibly torque/warp the bolt holes and make it unusable if I wanted to remove and put the rail back on.

What's not to get? Broke two rods by sliding kayaks. And I'm usually the one to drive 2 or 3 sometimes 4 kayaks on our trips. Lots of gear, nice to have something to keep the rods up and out of the way.

I'd try and figure out a way to mount studs permanently so the rod holders could just be screwed on or off with a wrench. It would look like you took a little bit of time thinking about it

Do you have a bedliner?

Nobody makes rod holders that are compatible with the rail system that's already in there?

IId never be up for cleaning the smashed love bug guts out of the rod eyes after a 3 hr drive....

Same goes for rods in boat while trailering, not me.

Yeah they do. I like building and making things though. Need a new project.

Anyone know a good rod rack for a tahoe. I've seen picks of one's that hook up to the garment holders and keep your rods up against the roof. Just don't know any actual name brands with good reviews.

Well, here's what I did. Seems to be pretty solid and not too heavy. I'm pleased. Plenty room for kayaks and gear and won't have to worry about broken rods. As long as I wait to put them in until I back out of the driveway with the low hanging branches.

I would do exactly what VanRich did. I would have it where it would fix on the the front rail on the truck and have the ability to take it out if need be.

Yeah have some 1/2" bolts that slide inside the rail and then wingnuts to secure the rod holder. Just four wing nuts and I can take it off. Was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
