I pay for the cheapest internet package available in Birmingham.

10 MB download
1 MP upload

I live alone and have had no problem streaming a movie while surfing the web. About a month ago I was having modem issues and called tech support. In the conversation he asked what I used most of my internet for and I told him Netflix and Prime. Since then, I can't get enough speed to use either. It will load, play for a few seconds and then buffer. Rinse and repeat.

Is it possible they are limiting bandwith to just two sites? Is that possible?

Yes.

Welcome to the end of net neutrality. Thanks SCOTUS.

Try resetting your modem and letting Amazon/Netflix stream first before browsing the internet. I had a similar problem for about a week and then it went away.

I live in Birmingham, also. Recently cancelled all tv service with ATT despite much hassle from customer service. Still stayed with them for internet. We pretty much steam video with aforementioned services exclusively. Never had an issue with bandwith previously. Personally, I feel they are taking issue with customers using web based television.
I am almost certain they know the jig is up and are screwing with like minded consumers.

Yeah, there was a post earlier this week regarding the changing of the guard with respect to web based services (Netflix and the like). I almost feel like they downgraded my speed because I cancelled Uverse television.

I'd bet this is exactly what they're doing. And they're going to get away with it.

I used to just stream with a roku box (Netflix and prime) but I recently signed up for TV internet with uverse. It's clear where things are headed. I read an article early saying that a few cable providers are going give netflix a regular channel.

Secure your network. Separate your 2.4 and 5GHz bands ssids. Give your streaming device priority to the 5GHz band, don't use it for anything else.

If that doesn't work, hard wire it. 10 down is plenty.

Do a speed test on your line and see if you're getting all that you pay for. If you're using wireless, especially the 2.8ghz band, you may have interference from neighboring lans and other devices. Try changing to a different channel (1, 6, or 11).

This is the OT. We all have commercial grade gigabit fiber.
