Good grief. Guess I could have expected a few of these comments. Did I accidentally post this on the OT.

I have no problem with it though it's definitely NOT age appropriate.

To hell with a yak!!! Go big and get the King Ranch!! Awesome by the way. Guns are only as dangerous as the owner, and the uneducated.

to your brother.

This, a red rider BB gun or life time hunting/fishing lic would be better. But hey, just oil it up good and put it away for him.

He's not going to get to shoot it for a long time. But it's my brothers way of investing in his future in something he believes in. That a boy should someday learn how to shoot a gun. And my brother really wanted to always be able to say that he bought him his first gun. It's not going to go in his toy chest. It's going to be put away where he can't get to it. I let him hold it to snap a picture for my brother. When he's old enough to start understanding how to be responsible and safe then I will begin to teach him about guns. I'm sure I'll sneak away and shoot some snakes with it too.

You guys know I'm all about young kids having and using guns (my daughter started open-carrying at age 14 -in Alaska-, other kids have loaded weapons in their rooms and a 16 yr old capped a bad guy), however that pic made me flinch.

My kids don't touch a weapon until certain gun education and performance milestones have been achieved. I don't even allow toy guns...only real guns in my house. I never want a kiddo to think a gun is a toy.

I'd just oil that Savage (rifle, not baby) and put it up until Jr is ready. Cool gift.

I'd encourage getting Jr a Lifetime NRA membership. When you're dead and gone, he'll remember Dad (you) every month when he gets his magazine in the mail.

He's going to need a .30-06 by age 3. I'd put that one in the safe for him later, and get him a toy one to replace it with until then. He won't know the difference.
