Is there an official rule that the pitcher's plate (rubber) must not be covered with dirt? I see umpires kick the dirt off, but is that just their preference or an actual rule?

There's a rule that the pitcher's foot must be in contact with the rubber, and the rubber must be clean in order to observe if there is contact.

Some pitchers will kick dirt all over the rubber, then try to sneak up a few inches.

welly ou see dirt is a physical thing. so a 2 inch mount of dirt would put you 2 inches closer

You've never seen a pitcher pivot their foot a few inches from the rubber? Do you actually watch baseball or are you just in here to be a retard?

No, i'm pretty sure they push off of it to get more velocity.

You can pick up a few MPH depending on how far in front of the rubber you can get.

I didn't think anyone pushed off the rubber anymore. With spikes you get a better plant in the dirt than actually trying to push off the rubber don't you?

I thought if you pitch from the stretch you typically have the back edge of your foot barely in contact with the rubber. If you go from the windup, you start with heels on but then pivot off.

Ok well if you never seen it, there are pitchers that will pivot their foot a couple of inches in front of the rubber when going through their motion. It's very slight and difficult to notice, but if they can get their foot 3 inches in front if the rubber they just moved their release point three inches forward, effectively decreasing the distance the pitch has to travel by 3 inches. Is this very common? No it isn't. But sometimes for someone who has lost a couple miles on their fastball those 3 inches can make a difference.

No you can't pick up extra MPH by having your foot in front if the rubber. You can decrease the hitters reaction time very slightly which has the same effect.

I will take your inability to use words and instead using emoticons as your admission of being a retard that has no idea what the hell you're talking about.

You must nor have been in the Pineda thread where it was established that he is Beiker Graterol. Or someone else who pitched for the Knoxville Smokies in 1997-98 and also only has one appearance in the majors.
