Everyone knows it's a GoT clone, but have we discussed how the target demo is obviously mouth-breathing overweight dads?

I wish I was only kidding. How is the show in any way defensible?

Well it must not be since you don't like it.

The characters are simple. One dimensional, predictable, whatever adjective you'd like. Who decided to make a Scandinavian version of the Borgias/Tudors and forgot to include any kind of compelling writing or believable intrigue?

Top to bottom formulaic.

Do you realize that it is based off ancient Viking Sagas and some of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle?

Of course it is formulaic... those stories help form the groundwork of English literature.

The stories are old as shite... how the hell are they supposed to come off as fresh?

GoT is a completely fictional show. It is free to borrow from history... it isn't bound by it.

I enjoyed the first season, haven't been able to get into season 2.

I think they killed off the bad guy too early. Should've let him at least roll into season 2. Got kinda stale after that for me

How is it a GoT clone? They're nothing alike except swords are involved in both.

He's not an overweight dad, so he probably can't grasp this fact as quickly as you or I might, just let it go

Fifteen seconds on google shows me that I'm not alone in that opinion.

I've never gotten this comparison, I see where it comes from, but I really don't feel that is the aim of the show. GoT isn't why Vikings exists, The Bible is. History channel had success with that bit of "historical fiction" (not trying to start a religious debate, trying to tie similar projects into the same genre). As others have said, the base material for this series is actual Viking folklore. In fact I started looking at it one day and had to stop because spoilers.

If you don't like it that's fine, it's slow paced and if you are comparing it to GoT it certainly pales in comparison, but it's actually a decent show for the historical fiction genre.

Let's see one show is about norse mythology and the other takes place on a fantasy world complete with dragons. So yeah obviously one show is a clone of the other.

I watched the first season but didn't carry on to the second season. Watchable but just barely.

Watched Season 1 like a hawk and after the 1st episode of Season 2, I pretty much stopped... Don't know what did it, but I lost interest
