Those of us who study politics have heard about the sociology of Left = Mommy (I'll take care of you) and Right = Daddy (don't be a whiner).

Recently this got me thinking about the male/female juxtaposition on discourse. IE...

The Dem mantra on Health Care: "The debate is over, it's a huge success."
Read... "I don't want to talk about it."

The Dem mantra on Global Warming: "The debate is over, it's happening"
Read..."I don't want to talk about it."

The Right doesn't say 'X' is over and I don't want to talk about it.

Now, let's go into male/female relationships. In my lifetime when I've confronted males with logic they respond with :
a. a counter argument
or
b. you are right.

When I've confronted females with logic they respond with:
"I don't want to talk about it."

Is this why females receive arguments from the left but not from the right? Thoughts?

All holidays are made up. One doesn't exists until someone finds a reason to celebrate.

Maybe you're just off-putting to women?

Dems on anything: "You're on the wrong side of history".

Read: "I don't want to talk about it".

I guess sorry you associate with unreasonable women? This isn't my experience with women at all. It's a question of integrity which isn't limited to a given sex. If you're right, do you have the integrity to stand by your position ("a counter argument") instead of backing down at any opposition ("I don't want to talk about it")? If you're wrong, do you have the integrity to admit it ("you are right") instead of dodging it ("I don't want to talk about it")?

I know plenty of men who don't have that integrity and I know plenty of women who do.

It's a question of integrity, not some pseudo-intellectual sociological tripe about left and right.

My thought is you apply your biases to the world around you. And color them to your advantage.

That's because the right never shuts up.

One problem. My biases are based on the truth. Therefore, to show that I am unbiased I would have to embrace falsehoods.

Re: my OP... As I thought about IRL discussions/arguments with women I really need to expand their responses. It's not only "I don't want to talk about it." It's also:
"Why are you that way?" and
"You just don't care about the needy."

Women also argue in a circular pattern. It goes like this:

Her: "A" is true.
Me: No "A" is false due to reasons B and C.
Her: "C" is not true because of D.
Me: No.."D" does not undercut C because of E and F.
Her: "A" is true.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

Moving away from IRL I've been observing politics very closely for over 50 years. There is a clear pattern that the left declares victory and calls for the end of all discussion MUCH more often than the right.

So, the question is why? My thought is that is fits the female argumentation style. And in a bifurcation the left trends female and the right trends male.

So 3.5 billion people don't want to talk to Zach, and he sees it as they're having a problem.

Narcissistic personality disorder much, Zach?

No, it's called general observation. I'm surprised you didn't grasp that. Otherwise, how is your day going, Wild?

I actually agree with you here. It's a miracle!

Human experiences color how we interpret any information (what we attend to, our emotional state, etc.). It's not just about integrity as another poster suggested. It's also about ego and pride as well. Plenty of folks have been "put in their place" about various things but refuse to accept it.

Integrity comes with considering all evidence as objectively as possible despite personal bias.

Which is the exact opposite of:

"The debate is over"
"I don't want to talk about it."

Thanks for supporting my position.

Recovering from my 3-day weekend out on Lake Pontchartrain.

Bloody Marys, sun, beer, sun, beer, darkness, rum...

Although when a woman told me to shut up Saturday night, she meant it in a good way.

...Maybe that's your problem, Zach, you're misinterpreting, "Shut up and kiss me you fool" as "I don't want to talk about it". Maybe the ladies find you so irresistible that they can't bear having to engage you in conversation, they just want to get down to nitty gritties with you.

I didn't disagree with your position Zach. I expanded on one point; that is, the human condition of imperfect information processing. It's not just male or female, left or right, religious or secular. It's all people to varying degrees. Honest debate requires a descent degree of self-awareness.

You might have a point. I often don't connect well with women on messaging. But I don't think it's peculiar to me. It's a gender thing. IE:

Zach: "That's a very pretty dress, Susan."
Susan: "And just WTF do you mean by that?"
