Because he has one very good pitch right now with a decent 2nd pitch and that's it. If he had one more out pitch, then yes...for now, he's perfect as a closer.

Who would have closed tonight to hold it at 2? This game is more important than the next two

With this offense, I'd rather have him available more in games like this.

Remember that time Matty Ott was a good closer and tried to become a starter?

Well, coming off of tommy john it was a good idea to ease him back. Especially as a power pitcher. Problem is he became a lock down closer. We're about to get him for longer than usual now so this may be his audition.

He's a better closer. If this team
scored more runs and he wasn't needed every Friday, could throw 5-6 innings on Sunday.

He isn't tough to figure out second time through the line up.

This! During the SEC race Sunday pitching is important. At championship time it fades. We won the natty with Austin Ross as our Sunday guy. We were very beatable on Sundays, but we were almost unbeatable with Coleman or Renaudo starting and Jones and Ott closing. Plus, what the other posters said about Bugg's limited repertoir. He'd get killed by the fourth inning. Let him develop his other stuff during the offseason, and he will be a weekend guy next year.

Mariano Rivera was a beast. The reason he was a closer is that he had that one dominant pitch, the cut fastball. May not have been as effective if hitters saw that pitch in 3-4 at bats every game.

Bugg still has a great del of developing to do. Luckily we have one of the best pitching coaches in the nation bring him along.
