Is There Any Measure of Soccer Players' Speed?

I know there are a lot of fast soccer players - or, to use the parlance of the sport, players with pace. But is there any way to measure how fast? Something analogous to the 40-yard-dash? Maybe some of these guys run/ran track? For instance, how would, say, Bale and Ronaldo compare to the NFL's best combine performers re: speed? Just something I've always wondered. TIA

This question has probably been asked and answered before on this board, but I couldn't find anything with a search.

Kind of. Poorly. It's different:

LINK ETA: This is the sprinting portion of Tested to the Limit

tl;dw: Ronaldo gets smoked over 25m straight line by the Spanish 100m champion, but then destroys him when lateral movements are incorporated

Marvell Wynne is the only player I know of who could certainly push players at the combine, but he sucks.

ETA2: Ronaldo appears to be faster than he is, straight-line. His anticipation is off the charts, and his work rate in the final third is virtually un-matchable.

The problem with this is the start. College players train for the 40 and how to get out of the blocks. It can make/cost them big dollars. Nobody other than sprinters actually train this way so a soccer player thrown into the blocks and told to run (like in joey's link) isn't going to fare well at all.

Now as far as natural top end speed goes, I think guys like Bale, Ronaldo, Walcott, etc. could hang with a good amount of NFLers but we really only have the eyeball test and conjecture to go on there.

Supposedly Bales averaged 17.1mph in his run for the goal vs Barca

I don't know if you got a chance to continue or not, but the one where he actually uses his shoulder was even crazier with the lights going out right as the ball was being struck. There's good instincts...and then there's super powers that let you see in the dark which apparently he has
