So, I won a 70 qt. K2 cooler and I plan on using it this weekend. Am I supposed to pre-freeze the cooler by adding ice before actual use? Any other steps that I am supposed to do? Thanks.

I is definitely going to help but it isn't necessary.

if your (any) ice chest is hot, a lot of ice will melt before the ice chest comes to equilibrium; if the ice chest is already chilled, you won't lose much ice

The best of the "super" coolers, IMO.

The Yeti and K2 manufacturers recommend that you place the cooler you intend to use inside another ice filled cooler for at least 24 hours before you use it.

I have one of the original K2 coolers they came out with... well the original line... think its the 60qt. I will unintentionally "precool" it and it will definitely save you some ice, but it keeps ice really really well.... I think it keeps ice better than the yetis I have.
The unintentional pre cooling happens when I pick up a 20lb bag of ice for transporting to somewhere.

You can always go to the grocery store, buy a block of dry ice and throw it in there.

Did that last year when we drove to the coast only didn't remove the dry ice. By the time we got there (the next day) everything was frozen solid.

I just feel like the latches need to be reversed where you pull down instead of pull up.

Latches are terrible in cold weather. I think the rubber is too hard (TWSS)

Not impressed with them. I've got a 20 qt, and my record for ice melting into a cooler full of water is 20 hours. And that's when I pre cooled it for 24 hours.

It's what makes these ice chests hold ice for so long, and it will make your igloo or coleman or whatever hold ice for that long too.

If you make the ice chest cold with more ice the day before you use it, it will hold ice longer. It's the greatest technological development of our time really.
