I was reading an article about it this morning. I've had it happen only once, lasted maybe a minute or so. Freaky!

Yes - many times. It's scary as all hell the first few times. My episodes have not often been associated with sensing an evil entity in the room, but just being fully aware but unable to move or call for help is absolutely terrifying.

Happens to the wife. Lasts about a minute if I do not nudge her to wake up.

Yep, once a year or so. I come out of a dream and I'm convinced someone is in the room next to me who shouldn't be there, but somehow I can't move. By the time I can I've come to my senses.

Yeah, but it has only been accompanied by hallucinations a few times.

It is very scary. You wake up and you see these dark figures around you in the corner, or you see a small devil or gargoyle sitting on top of your chest. The figure on top of your chest makes it feel like you can't breathe. You try to scream and shout but can't.. completely helpless and paralyzed. It hasn't happen to me recently but whenever it does.. I just become aware of what the situation is, remain calm and close your eyes back to sleep.

I think a lot of children in Asia die from sleep paralysis. They have a bunch of names for it.

I have maybe 10 or so times. my strategy is always to get myself moving by trying to roll over or find a way to get my arm to hit myself in the chest. it never works but it most of the time, it slowly brings me out of it.

often when I was younger, hasnt happened in awhile. Its really scary/miserable experience. You try to move, but nothing happens. Usually last 30 seconds to a few minutes

Yeah, actually once in a while it'll happen. Complete feeling of helplessness, sucks major arse.

ETA: I don't have any dream like hallucinations though. It's just I am awake enough to be lucid, and try to move body parts but they just won't move except maybe half an inch.

I'm in my 30s and I still get it at least 3 or 4 times a year. I've never had any visual halucinations during it but I have had auditory halucinations which were quite freaky to say the least.

Have never experienced that, but I have something else that happens once in a while.
I am in a deep state of sleep, and suddenly there is the sound of a loud explosion in my head, and I come awake with a jolt.
Scares the crap out of my girlfriend, and I tell her, "you are lucky that you don't hear the explosion".
My doctor seems to think it just pressure in my ear.
Does anyone else experience this?

The scariest hallucination I ever had was some type of demon/creature moving around near the side of my head. I could hear it breathing, but I couldn't see much more that its shadow.

Wow I never knew it was this common. It is freaky as shite when it happens though. One time I felt hot breath on my face and couldn't move, when I finally did it's one of those fears that makes you check all the closets with a shotgun and make sure all the doors and windows are locked.

Happened once or twice. Wasn't accompanied with a really evil feeling, just sucked.

I am 32 and have experienced this once a few months ago. It lasted close to one minute. I couldn't even speak or anything. I never heard of it and literally thought I was paralyzed. I never saw anything. But did mention it to my friends and they thought I was nuts. So, I'm glad this topic was brought up today.

Yes. I once had it everyday for a week. Scariest shite ever It was a group of three figures dressed in black robes murmuring to each other.
