I have it frequently. Usually when I take naps during the day.

Never have any hallucinations. Just can't move or speak. I believe it happens when you come straight out of a REM cycle. Your body releases a toxin while you sleep to keep you from acting out your dreams.

It may be the opposite of sleepwalking. There's a neuroscientist on this board, maybe he can weigh in.

I've had it happen a couple of times. The saying I've heard/used to describe it is "The devil being on your back."

Sorry brah! I get them too.

Then again, you could just realize that it's a natural thing and not worry about it. If you're a kid, and not a grown man, my sincere apologies.

Happens all the time to me, ever since I was a child. Happens if I try to sleep on my back. I'm totally aware of it going on but I just can't wake up. I try to make myself roll over or out of bed or anything to wake up. Luckily it doesn't involve monsters or anything like others have described. It's just me in the bed, my mind's awake but my body isn't.

I didn't really know this was a thing or abnormal until a couple of years back.

Yep. I get it frequently. Demons and the old hag are common. Sometimes they try and pull me off the bed, but mostly they are just suffocating me and I can't move. Also have episodes of lucid dreaming, but not as frequent as sleep paralysis.

Sleeping on back and taking a nap make it worse, but it happens sleeping on my stomach as well. I'm an average height and weight guy with severe sleep apnea so maybe that contributes to the suffocating feeling I get.

I have this happen once every few months. I'll get up and look out the window sometimes

Well frick, I want to try it! Can't believe I've never heard of this, but it sounds pretty damn cool. Best I've got is sleeping on my arm and having my arm fall asleep.

yes, usually a few times a month, it not more. Don't sleep on your back, and try to wiggle your toes to exit it. Trying to wiggle your toes (if you can remember) will get you out most of the time.

Had about 3-4 run-ins with the Old Hag while living in North Stadium.

No episodes before or after though.
