Not really in terms of survival of the fittest/nature.

Subconsciously that baby fears competition for food/survival. A sibling is a competitor to the child. While the child's brain is undeveloped enough for rational thinking, the subconscious takes over. The baby tries to stop the mother from becoming pregnant, therefore possibly cutting off it's food supply/care.

ETA: I'm not suggesting the baby knows all of this, obviously. Instincts/nature are in the drivers seat
