How do you typically discover new artists that fit in your preference?

I like to explore the suggestions from spotify as well as posters from this board who I know have similar tastes.

i use spotify primarily and pandora occasionally. i don't really use either for finding new music tho.
i usually find new artists on message boards or recommendations from friends.

I always grab a beer and look at their recommendations and see what intrigues my ears

I go to festivals and watch the 3rd tier acts to see if they pique my interest.

Ditto. Plus I have one friend that's into some of the same stoner/prog stuff I like and we turn each other on to new acts. KLSU has been a great resource to keep on top of great new stuff too.
I also pay attention to the music in movies and good TV shows and look stuff up or wait for the credits.

I pay attention to announcements for certain music festival that are geared to my taste and then just look up some of the artists that seem interesting.
As far as shite that I just haven't listened to yet and people I haven't heard of before, I look at people who play with or sit in with some of my favorite artists. I read about who people that I like mention in interviews or talk about.
