Figure I would start this topic since in my daily drive I come across two scenarios where the rules allude drivers and near misses happen everyday. And because for one of the scenario I had someone curse me out today(I was Driver B/Scenario 2). Wanted to see if I was in the right or in the wrong.

1.) Driver A heading Southbound has full green and wants to turn left to head Eastbound. Driver B heading northbound has protected green arrow to turn right to also head eastbound. Who has the right of way?

2.) Driver A heading Southbound has a left turn green protected arrow. Driver A attempts to U-turn to head northbound. Driver B heading Westbound has a right turn green protected arrow. Who has the right of way?

1. B.

2. There are two northbound lanes. Each driver should stay in its closest lane. Right lane for you, left for the U turner.

Driver B has the protection, I would say he has the ROW.

Driver A heading Southbound has a left turn green protected arrow. Driver A attempts to U-turn to head northbound. Driver B heading Westbound has a right turn green protected arrow. Who has the right of way?

Driver A cut across the path of Driver B that had the ROW. Driver A ROW did not extend to the Uturn that put him in the path of Driver B that was protected to make his turn.

Left turn has to yield the right of way.

U turn should yield the right of way.

Correct. Many U turn signs say you must yield to right turning traffic.

Driver B wouldn't have an arrow if the opposite direction also had a green light.

I don't think that's entirely accurate.

Some lights have right turn arrows that come on when the light is green.

Was the U-turn even legal? Some intersections in cities have signs that ban u-turns, especially at busy intersections.
