Saw this on the poliboard, thought I'd spread the good word.

Washington Post

quote:

A few weeks ago, with no notice, the U.S. government intercepted Mary Grice’s tax refunds from both the IRS and the state of Maryland. Grice had no idea that Uncle Sam had seized her money until some days later, when she got a letter saying that her refund had gone to satisfy an old debt to the government — a very old debt.

quote:

Now, Social Security claims it overpaid someone in the Grice family — it’s not sure who — in 1977. After 37 years of silence, four years after Sadie Grice died, the government is coming after her daughter. Why the feds chose to take Mary’s money, rather than her surviving siblings’, is a mystery. Across the nation, hundreds of thousands of taxpayers who are expecting refunds this month are instead getting letters like the one Grice got, informing them that because of a debt they never knew about — often a debt incurred by their parents — the government has confiscated their check.

quote:

“It was a shock,” said Grice, 58. “What incenses me is the way they went about this. They gave me no notice, they can’t prove that I received any overpayment, and they use intimidation tactics, threatening to report this to the credit bureaus.”

Oh my God, my parents were complete fricking deadbeats. Hope I don't get tagged. Good thing I only get about $200 refund every year.

intimidation tactics
A running theme. Peaceful, tolerant liberals sure do love their thugs.

Yeah I just got a letter from the state of La saying they confiscated my state refund. Had to actually do a bunch of digging just to get a slight idea of why they took it and come to find out it's a fine that was already completely paid but now they are trying to double dip me. After I showed they are double dipping me they are now saying that I'm supposed to be charged for the same thing twice

Complete bullshite. It's like you are guilty of owing them and then on you to prove you don't.

Kinda like robbery, except they steal from you, and you're guilty before proven innocent. That's the USA our children get to look forward to.

I mean a refund is still your money. It's government sponsored theft for anyone to take it without due process.

Yes I agree. I ended up in school when I wasn't thinking I would be which aided in me getting a refund from the state. In which they stole

Grice must be a member/supporter of the Tea Party.

This is why you don't want to give the govt and interest free loan out of your paycheck. Better you owe them or come as close as possible to breaking even than overpayin anymore than you have to.
