We have a work dinner scheduled for Saturday at Drusilla's Seafood. I've never been.

How is this place? Anything come recommended?

I hate Drusilla more than any other restaurant. The atmosphere is terrible and the food is worse.

It's not just Drusilla. I literally had the worst meal I've ever eaten at Don's seafood on Airline Hwy a few months back. I feel like Don's, Mike Anderson's, Ralph & Kacoo's and Drusilla were all better in the 80's. Maybe it's a generational thing?

Gets a bad rap IMO. Of course, I never order fried seafood there.

Broiled seafood platter if I'm starving. They usually do a good job on their fish dishes. Oysters are good too.

I saw a billboard advertisement for this place today. The featured dish looked absolutely dreadful and something that some 80 year old at a nursing home should be gumming on.

The 70's...
seems like last week..

or, the week before last..

I remember nice table cloths, nice silverware, nice tasting shrimp and pre-gnats.

I wouldn't pay to eat there. Slap a new name on the building, move it 100 yards away and it would close in 6 months. They are a great example of how irrational people can be about restaurants. People still go because it was a hot spot back in the day. The whole city accepted it as a "good" restaurant and that city wide acceptance is still around, however irrational, and it takes years to dissipate, maybe a generation or more. (Mike Anderson's comes to mind as well) That's why, if you are considering starting a restaurant, you never go up against an old crappy restaurant that is still irrationally popular, even if they do suck. It's an old lion that won't die easily. It's still stuck in a lot peoples mind as a good place to go.

Don't believe any of these snobs. I've never seen any bugs or flies or anything like that there and the food is solid. It's not the best and it's not the worst. It's not a place I would go out of my way for, but it's not bad for a dinner meeting. I'd go with one of the blackened fish dishes.
