"Hell, I could walk a mile in 10 minutes!"

No, you probably can't.

I hear this said all the time, usually by some pompous arse directed towards someone who has the audacity to say that they were finally able to run a mile in under 10 minutes. Interestingly enough, most of the time the people I hear say it (or post it on here) haven't tried to run a mile in years, or ever.

Personally, I don't think you (the average person) can walk a mile in under 10 minutes. That is a (slow) jog, not a walk. For what it's worth, I can run a mile in 8 minutes. Not good, I know, but not too bad either. I just get tired of dumbasses trying to put down people who are actually putting forth the effort to better themselves.

...stepping down from the soapbox.

I do 4 miles in 45

So one mile in 10 is certainly doable.

Edited for obvious error!

Race walkers can do a mile under 6:30 without ever having more than one foot off of the ground.

6 mph pace. That is some serious walking if you are doing it. This is a slow jog for most people.

Oh, I'm not saying these kind of people can't do it. I'm just saying that the average person that is calling someone out is not able to actually do it under 10 minutes.

Stop being a lazy arse & get moving.
