What's a good age for kids to start guitar lessons?

I am not a guitar player but bought one for my 7 year old daughter last year because I wanted her to learn an instrument. She has taken a liking to it but I don't know how to help her advance. What is a good age to consider lessons (she is 8)? Also, any instructor recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most kids can't handle the guitar until they are older. Too much pain and no immediate payoff. Your daughter might be an exception. My son begged me but I waited until he was just under 12. He hasn't put it down since.
The best age for beginning guitar imho is 11-15 depending on the kid. Hendrix started at 15. Mine started at eleven and fourteen. You want them to come to the guitar on their terms, not yours or else it won't be fun.

She has taken an interest to it more than I expected. I was worried that by not putting her in lessons early on I would hold her back. I never played guitar so I wasn't sure the age range kids start lessons. The 11-15 age range makes sense because I was 12 the first time I picked up an instrument. Thanks for the advise,

I would recommend piano lessons first. Unless they are dead set on something else. Learning piano theory has helped me play a dozen instruments

10 to 12 is a great time, but I know people who started much earlier. It depends on the interest of your child. Don't force it. If they gravitate to something else just roll with it.

Start piano first. Theory will translate, ease of learning will encourage. JM2C

Best thing you can do for her at this point is buy her a BC Rich Warlock and every Slayer album ever recorded.

I started taking lessons at 15 and I wish that I'd started earlier. I'm not sure where you live, but I'd go to some music stores and ask for referrals for an honest teacher. See if they'll do a couple of lessons just to see if your kid is into it and enjoying it.

Did you buy an electric or an acoustic? Electric guitars are generally much easier to play/learn on.

I bought a small, cheap acoustic guitar. I didn't know if she would play it or play with it and break it. If she sticks with it, I'll splurge and buy something nicer

Seems a little young, having larger hands helps but check out "justin guitar" he has good free lessons.
