That list makes cricket seem like it's a lot closer to soccer than it really is in terms of world wide popularity.

This list is a misleading load of shite.
There's a difference between widespread popularity and total number of fans.
Cricket is popular in a very small window of British Commonwealth states. Anything popular in India is going to top the charts since they have a billion people.
Throw field hockey into that.
And table tennis thanks to China.

Cricket is artificially inflated because there are over 1 Billion people in India who are all Cricket fans
