Mickey Rooney died yesterday. Zach a new homage pic is well deserved.

Very long if not illustrious career. I remember him most from the Mickey Rooney Show. He won a Primetime Emmy in 1981 for his role as the retarded character, Bill, in the TV movie by the same name. Rooney was nominated for 3 Academy Awards. He was active until his death filming Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and is listed in pre-production for 2 other films on IMDB. /salute

Number one box office draw in the country for years and a bronze star recipient in WWII.

Still, his death will receive less attention then some loser who dies from an heroin overdose.

Sorry folks. I don't know how to change avatars from the approved sources. If someone wants to post an address for me to use I'll be more than happy to change it.

Re: Mickey... I don't know if the youngsters today realize that the two biggest box office draws back in the day were kids... Shirley Temple and Mickey.

It is. That was the last time someone gave me an approved image address. Back before we needed 'approved' sources for images I changed my avatar about twice a month.

Favorite Mickey Rooney role: Ding Bell from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

The whole thing with Rooney, Buddy Hackett and Jim Backus in the plane is priceless.

I never could stand those dumb-assed Andy Hardy movies.

That movie had about 20 of the biggest comic stars in the US. I was a big fan of Terry Thomas:

One of the FUNNIEST movies ever made! Rat Race was a pretty decent rip-off, though

Useless trivia alert!

The pilot who actually flew that twin Beech through the billboard and the hangar was Frank Tallman. He was partners with Paul Mantz, who was maybe one of the greatest movie pilots ever.

In my young and reckless days, I flew a Cessna 172 under the Kowiliga bridge on Lake Martin, but flying a Twin Beech through a paper billboard is just totally batshit insane.

The idea of putting that many big names in small parts reminds me of The Longest Day...about Normandy invasion. That movie had at least 20 big name stars and very few of them were on screen for more than 5 minutes.

Can't see a picture of TT without hearing him say, "Why do Americans have an infantile preoccupation with brassiers?"

That movie's worth a re-watch.

The Andy Hardy movies were not very good from the standpoint of writing. So, I agree with you. In the same era we had the Marx Brothers movies and if you watched them today they are still very funny.

"You two girls are everything I want in a woman...you're tall and short, blond and brunette, let's get married."
"But that's bigamy"
"Yes it is. Let's all be big about this. One wife was good enough for your grandmother. But who wants to marry your grandmother. Not even your grandfather."

On the news last night they did a little coverage of his life. He first started in movies in the '20's silent movies, but had been acting on the stage with his parents earlier than that stage of his life. Take the little idea a career that spanned nine decades,
