HUNTSVILLE — Serial killer Tommy Lynn Sells - a drifter who has been linked to the deaths of more than a dozen people, including a 9-year-old girl - was executed Thursday, despite appeals from attorneys who raised concerns that a secretly made drug used to kill him could deliver a painful death.

Attorneys for Sells had asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block his execution because Texas officials have refused to disclose details about the pentobarbital to be pumped into his body. The high court denied the request.

Sells declined to give a final statement or make eye contact with his victims' families Thursday as he was strapped to a gurney and executed.

I don't think I could watch an execution if I was a victim family member. Too much for me

He was one of the 1000 worst people on the planet. I hope he died scared and humiliated.

Appealing your death sentence to prove your innocence or you think the legal system fricked up or you think your lawyers fricked up is one thing, but yeah, I have to laugh at these killers freaking the frick out over being possibly uncomfortable when the drugs get a pumping. They sure as shite didn't make it comfortable for their victims when they killed them.

But there's a larger issue at play here. There's a huge shortage of execution drugs in the United States after the European Union put a chokehold on the drugs coming out of Europe from foreign suppliers. It's led states to getting drugs from compounding pharmacies not closely regulated by the FDA and that's led to a whole mess of lawsuits in DP states.

If I had a family member murdered I could easily watch the killer be executed. If I could legally I could easily be the one to execute him

Being a libertarian, this is kind of a conundrum for me. I would prefer a system of outlawry for murderers whereby the state won't kill you, but it also won't protect you.

Put him in general population if you want to really have the guy suffer brutality.

Some people are too dangerous to be in the general population. I'm ok with the DP in the case of serial killers or if there are at least 3 credible witnesses. Those people should be put to death within 3 months of trial.

Lol...this ain't the movies. Put a notorious sex offender in GP and he'd be lucky to last 3 days much less 3 months. Nobody is that "dangerous".

Government sponsored justice and should be seen treated and justified as such.

I don't really like the death penalty but that's a ridiculous argument.

OH NO! I might be in too much pain when I die. frick off a-hole. The pain you caused your victims should be reciprocated 10x on you when you die.

He got off easy. He should have been sentenced to hard labor in the Texas heat for the rest of his life.
