I work with a bunch nerds, I call them home schoolers, and I've witnessed, more than once, them sitting their vehicle, still, until engine gets to temp. Yesterday it was a Corolla, and as i'm walking out I hear the car make an audible adjustment, like the fan kicking in or something, then he takes off. He was just sitting there letting the car idle until the thermostat opened or something.

I hop in, start the mfer, jam it into gear and go. I won't rev it to 4k right off the bat, but still...

Anyone here warm up a vehicle?

pretty sure modern vehicles don't need warming up.

Now my 81 Ford Ranger I drove in high school wasn't going anywhere for a good 10 mins after ignition

That was applicable in 1970. WIth modern cars, it's no t necessary anymore, yet i know a few people that still do it. It annoys the shite out of me.

It used to be tough on engines to crank with the ac on.

They're afraid the oil is too cold to properly circulate? Isn't that why there are two grades to the oil? 5w-30.

How do you know what he's doing? Seems, he could be waiting for something else, no? Sending an email/text, reading something, etc?

If it is cold. I'm talking 30 and below. If it is 40 or above, definitely not.

I do when I'm on my 15 year old 4 wheeler. My cars and trucks... No. 440,000 odometer miles tells me it's not necessary. But I wasn't homeschooling, so what do I know m

When the car is covered in ice or snow. Makes it easier to remove said ice and snow.

It happens too much in the lot, yesterday as soon as the car made the audible sound he took off. I read too much into things often, so there is a possibility that is the case.

I use 0w40...so no.

If I ran 15w50, or 20w50...I would.

When it is below freezing, Ill give it 30 seconds or so for the fluid in the trans to actually flow properly, other than that...no.

I try not to break 3k rpm for the first mile, fairly easy given its near that far to the blacktop.
