Edwin Jackson (0-0, 0.00) vs. Charlie Morton (0-0, 0.00)

Cubs

1. 2B Bonifacio
2. 3B Valbuena
3. SS Castro
4. 1B Rizzo
5. RF Schierholtz
6. CF Sweeney
7. C Castillo
8. LF Kalish
9. P Jackson

Why take Olt out of the lineup? Just let him play.

Can someone explain to me why you'd have 2 teams play on opening day, break for a day, and then resume the final 2 games of the series?

Not unless you have a package that gets CSN+ or have MLB.TV.

Back to Olt, I feel like the first thing I want to do when I have a bad day is make up for it.

Most if not all of those teams play in open air stadiums and places wehre spring weather is unpredictable.

They don't wnat to cheat the teams of the opening day experience. Why they couldn't just call the next day opening day (for game 2 of the series) i have no clue. But that's the justification.

See that's dumb to me. I'd rather Olt play 3B. He's, for all intensive porpoises, THE third baseman. So, let him play.

I'm all for Valbuena and BONERfacio getting playing time, but it should be at 2B and CF--at the expense of Barney and not Olt.

This has been happening for a while. It seems to every year for St. Louis.

I agree...i kind of assumed that by saying he'd made the team he was going to be 'the' 3b, not part of a platoon. But even with a new manager i expect the cubs to platoon a shitload again. And that's my guess as to why olt isn't starting today.

They do that all the time on the opening series, FWIW.

I see it as more important for Olt to try again as soon as he can rather than have that linger in his head.

I'm ok with this. I don't think he's more than a 4th outfielder and unless his CF abilty improves i dont' think he's an important piece going forward, nor do I think he's got much trade value.

I'm right there with you. I'm not advocating for the platoon. But i suspect that's the justification.

disagree, I think he can easily develop into an everyday OF a solid player to lean on going forward
