I was watching some videos of games early on in his coaching career at lsu and I noticed that he liked to go for it on fourth down a lot. Arizona st he went for it on the first 4th down of the game backed up against his own end zone. USC and Florida in 2007. Crazy Flynn pass on 3rd down against auburn. Florida and bama in 2010. Not bashing the guy at all, he still wins a lot of ball games and is one hell of a coach. Just wondering if anyone else noticed he has kind of relaxed on going with these crazy yet amazing calls

he probably now knows he doesn't really need to gamble, just line up and smash the opponent in the mouth.

He didn't like all the nicknames and rep for being that kind of coach, he's made a conscious effort to back off

Because he doesn't have to anymore. He knows that teams will respect the trick play and fake across all levels of the offense.

He didn't call that play. It was something they watched on film and Jackson had the green light to do.

I don't think Les wanted him to do it in that situation

Yeah, that was a pretty bad call.

With Chavis and Cameron hopefully he won't feel a need to do that.

You sure you aren't thinking of wing against Florida in 2011?

No, I'm thinking of the Jackson pass from our own endzone against Arizona State.

Miles said in a Gridiron meeting that they had installed the play during practice and Jackson could call it at his discretion.

I don't think Les wanted it ran from his own endzone.

I don't blame les. I probably would have said good job to Jackson, but also told him never do that again

He did not call the play against Arizona St... The punter made that decision and he said CLM told him not to do it again.

And what makes U think he called the actual play? He doesn't have a play sheet and he doesn't have view of the D-set. Granted he gives the nod to go for it on 4th, but I doubt he calls the specific play--unless it is something that is worked on during the week like the FG over the shoulder flip.

I wasn't referring to the actual play. I was talking about him going for it on 4th.

It's never a crazy play if it works.

we took a shot at the endzone with 7 seconds to go. if it hits, we win the game. if it misses (unless it gets picked), we kick the FG. how is that a crazy play? the only thing crazy about it is that flynn tried to fit it in an irresponsibly tight window, and the DB somehow missed it.

unlikely that it actually succeeded? yes. crazy to take one shot at the EZ with 7 seconds? not at all.

You made specific references to specific plays.

Also, I clarified that CLM did not make the decision in the AZ ST game...he was content to punt as designed.
