Documents filed with the Department of Labor and dated December 2012—three months after the company's owners filed their lawsuit—show that the Hobby Lobby 401(k) employee retirement plan held more than $73 million in mutual funds with investments in companies that produce emergency contraceptive pills, intrauterine devices, and drugs commonly used in abortions. Hobby Lobby makes large matching contributions to this company-sponsored 401(k).

Several of the mutual funds in Hobby Lobby's retirement plan have holdings in companies that manufacture the specific drugs and devices that the Green family, which owns Hobby Lobby, is fighting to keep out of Hobby Lobby's health care policies: the emergency contraceptive pills Plan B and Ella, and copper and hormonal intrauterine devices.

You don't seem to understand how mutual funds work.

But...but..but..Hobby Lobby said they don't believe in those kinds of things. They said so! And conservatives rallied behind them! This can't be true.

This. The investor rarely (if ever) actually picks what companies or investments are aggregated into the mutual funds they invest in. This has been discussed in other threads on other various topics on this board in the past.

This is no different than the CT teachers union's retirement fund investing in the Bushmaster firearms company. These are giant funds that invest in many, many, many different companies and industries.

We hire brokers for a reason. I don't have a clue what individual entities my businesses 401K invest in. I don't have any particular interest in this case, but this attempt at "gotcha" is beyond fricking stupid!

You don't understand the irony or the fact that there are mutual funds out there that people can invest in that adhere to their morality. You should look into this one: Fund for Catholics.

Reminds me of when Obama said Romney had money in off-shore accounts, only to be reveled later that did as well. Nothing to see here.

There have been "moral" investment advisors and funds out there for decades. If you give enough of a shite about birph control to take on the Fed Gov you can find a mutual fund that doesn't invest in birph control.

But you admit you can pick a mutual fund that follows your individual moral guidelines.

They also continue offering hobby supplies in a country that.... allows abortions. They probably even sell them to people that have had an abortion.
