Did anyone else raise their eyebrows when they looked at the authors name and the publication? Nice article btw. My biggest question(s) with the libertarian platform is the order of importance of fiscal issues vs social issues? I am willing to concede on some social issues to win the fiscal battle, but not the other way around.

It varies. The whole idea is freedom in both aspects.

It means that my primary concern is the financial well being of this country and in order to get that done would compromise on social issues.

This. Otherwise, everything else will eventually fold. Something else I don't quite understand. The Tea Party has risen to what, about 20% of the GOP in a short period of time? Why hasn't the libertarian movement done a better job of getting its message out and getting members to join in?

I could see myself going libertarian but until they get some kind of viable ground game going, I cannot vote anti-republican just to make a statement in which the democrats profit from me taking a stance against the old guard.

It's going to take many people other than Rand Paul to get this libertarian ship sailing. Until they make a unified effort to get involved in state grassroots politics their national influence will suffer.

I'm still trying to figure out what you mean by this:
quote:

compromise on social issues.

Do you mean you would compromise by allowing the gov't to continue to legislate social issues?

social issue dude makes no sense whatsoever. Libertarianism is compatible with the Golden Rule---Treat those as how you would like to be treated. Libertarians believe in religious freedom and private property rights--something that has slowly eroded over time. We're on the way to being 20 trillion in fed debt alone, and folks are still worried abiout Adam and Steve being married.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make. Most presidents have an agenda and an order of importance to get things done. Since libertarians are both fiscally conservative and socially liberal, what comes first. Balancing the budget or drug legalization?

Common sense says the debt. Rand's goal will be debt reduction, and economy in general. He won't legalize drugs but he'll effectively neutered the police state status that perpetuates prohibition.

He knows exactly what you mean hes just using sarcasm to point out that he thinks he is the smart guy in the room.

Newsflash: If you are waiting for a pure libertarian, you will always be dissapointed.

We know libertarians dont see issues as social issues but rather liberty issues. The problems is 99.9% of the people in this country are not well versed libertarians.

Another way to put the question would be: Would you support a candidate who is for continuing war on drugs if that candidate was fiscally conservative?

Things like legalizing drugs and reigning in the military abroad are helping to balance the budget

I found it funny. Also, yet another example of a foreign based new organizations providing more "news" reporting than the propaganda outlets we have here.

I'm not trying to make a point, I'm trying to ask questions about the point YOU'RE trying to make. That's why you see question marks in my posts.

So then when I asked:
quote:

Do you mean you would compromise by allowing the gov't to continue to legislate social issues?

Your answer is basically, "Yes, while they get our fiscal house in order. Then they can loosen up social policy."

Fine, that's your position.

At first it looked like you could have been saying you would go along with the Libertarian social position only because you want the fiscal policy but that you were against their position on social issues.

I just don't understand why it's so hard to answer people's questions on this board.
