I think just about everyone can agree that this would be a good thing.

One can decrease a womans chances of developing a high risk lesion by 45% and all other types of lesions by about 35%. And it is easy.

Just vaccinate children against the hpv vaccine.

LINK

While I hear the arguments against, I think they are pretty foolish. Having people be vaccinated is not saying it is ok to engage in unprotected sex. One would think that HIV, pregnancy, Herpes, and numerous other things would be pretty strong to make children think. But this is just one way to decrease the risks of something bad happening if someone decides to engage in unprotected sex.

While on this topic, or maybe I should start another one, if there was a vaccination to HIV, would you allow your children to be vaccinated? Or would that also be the devils handiwork?

There are all kinds of people working on an HIV vaccine. Eventually, though the virus is diverse and mutates rapidly, they may be able to come up with a vaccine. It would just be ridiculous if team jesus said that they should be allowed to not get their kids vaccinated on religious reasons...

With all things, weighing the risks against the benefits is important. That being said, I have no problem with it.

I think you should be more specific with your criticism. It is, after all, Catholics that currently oppose condoms in Africa.

Oh the Texas branch of Team Jesus was up in arms about this a few years ago. They were afraid their innocent little flowers were going to become raging whores if they had this vaccination. It was ridiculous. Hell, both of my daughters and my son have had it. My daughters managed to not get pregnant and as far as I know I'm not a grandpa thanks to my son.

Wow. You must give them birthcontrol in their morning cereal...

But what do people think about a potential HIV vaccine? Do people think that the religious right would have a problem against vaccination just like they do against HPV?

It is an interesting thought. Maybe no one will see this question and I should start a separate thread...

Not sure why Religious Folks are always accused of being anti vaccine. There are plenty of non religious types that are also against vaccines.

Btw, the side effects to the HPV vaccine are a bigger deal with many people then the idea that it will lead to more casual sex. Remember drug companies are not liable if people get sick/injured bc of their vaccine.

It is a valuable vaccine administered to males and females from 9-26 years old that prevents 4 of the most disease causing subtypes of a sexually transmitted virus.

New studies indicate that the benefit is greatest if the vaccine is given prior to age 15.

Agreed. This is where responsible parenting comes in. Teach your child it's for precautions (for mostly when they get older) and not a green light for casual sex.

That said - don't know why you are narrowing it down to the religious right. I know plenty of libs that are very outspoken against vaccines as well.

And laryngeal cancer, esophogeal cancer, tongue cancer, and oropharynx cancer.

Those are the reasons both guys and girls get it.

1/3rd of oropharynx and tongue cancers are secondary to HPV.

Yes- pre-pubescent and pubescent males and females both benefit from the vaccine. My daughter is due for her 2nd of 3 doses now. My younger one will also get it. From my perspective as a dad who works somewhere where I see the results of cancer on a daily basis, it's an easy call.

No, I'm pointing out that this is really just a troll thread by an atheist full of generalizations with little to no thought given to what is in actuality a complex issue.
