US CUSTOMS IS IN CANADA

You will need to arrive to the airport for your return trip at least 2 hours in advance, so you can go through U.S. Customs IN CANADA, then security screening, then boarding. If you arrive 90 minutes in advance which is usually plenty of time at an medium sized airport - there's a good chance you miss your flight.

I know it sounds fricked. WTF huh?

BTW United Airlines = Not family friendly

Probably easier going through US customs in Canada rather than in the US airports, if this is true. Some airports are better than others about customs, but last time I came through Dulles it was a shite show of the highest order trying to get through customs.

Two hours early for an international flight is standard. Customs is front-loaded. Aside from the fact that this blows your mind, what is the problem?

Turning immigration at Dulles, O'Hare, LAX, etc. can take awhile. So why not do that in advance so there's less of a chance you'll miss your connection?

Not always

When I flew back from Mexico, I dealt with customs at DFW. It was a nightmare though, 2 customs agents for 200 people

You need to get our more. Canada and the US have had this agreement for some time. It is far better to get through the customs check there before boarding than it is to do it here in the first city you fly into the US when you have to hurry to catch a connecting flight on to your final destination. Believe me it's far better.

The 2 hour guidance is very much standard everywhere now for international flights. If you travel much you'll learn its much easier and enjoyable to do that than it is to be running like crazy folks trying to get through checkin and security and on to your gate. Much better to start a trip relaxed and not in a panic.
