Will you be shocked if we draft a qb after the 2nd round?

I don't think there's a way in world we draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round, but what about 3rd on?
I bring this up because of what the Texans coach (O'Brien)said this week:
quote:

O'Brien specifically mentions A.J. McCarron (Alabama), Zach Mettenberger (LSU), Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech), Tom Savage (Pittsburgh), and Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois) as other quarterbacks on the team's radar. "To me, you've got 10-12 guys you really got to do a great job of evaluating and make the best pick possible wherever you pick these guys," O'Brien said. "I just see a lot of good quarterbacks. All of the guys have potential, which is a dangerous word, and you're trying to make sure you're doing what's best for your organization, what fits best for your organization when you make that pick of a quarterback."

If McCarron, Murray, Carr, Garoppolo or Mettenberger are there in the 3rd, does Payton go after them?
My first response would be no; too many other positions of need and they obviously like what they see in Griffin.

What if the staff has evaluated a QB as a definite future replacement for Brees and they can pick him up in the later rounds?

Absolutely. Brees has another 4-5 years at least. It'd be a waste for the franchise and the prospect. Maybe in 2 years start looking for the QB of the future.

Would be a waste of a pick IMO

In the 3rd-5th round, yes I would be shocked and disappointed in that pick.

In the 6th or 7th? No not at all. If CSP wants to draft a QB and there is someone that he really likes in the late rounds, I have no problem with it.

Can't see one in the 3rd or 4th this year due to the insane amount of depth in this draft but I will not be shocked at all if we drafted one in 5,6 or 7. JMO

Yes and No. Is another QB needed right now? No.
But it sure as hell wouldn't be a wasted pick if we could let him study under Brees and flip him like the Patriots do so often. Additionally, the entire chance of success rest on Brees' shoulders. If he goes down, the season is pretty much over. What if one of these qbs in the draft gives us a better chance than Griffin?

Redskins invested a ton of resources to get RGIII and then picked up Cousins in the 4th. What do you think Washington could get for Cousins right now?

Again, if the staff has high hope for Griffin, this is a moot point. I guess we'll see.

Absolutely. Sure AJ Murray Mett and Carr could be good, but we have zero need.

Now I don't know if McCown or Griffin is the answer, but it's not time yet.

I really want that dude at OU btw.

I said before I think they take BPA almost regardless of position(no K, P, or FB as these spots are too part time and we have legit guys there). I think the whole draft will be as such except maybe making sure they get a center unless we sign one in FA.

I'm sure certain positions will be lower than others if the value is equal, such as QB, TE, and OT. But if there is a QB whose value is too good to pass up I think they'll take him, even if that's in the first.

As crazy as this sounds, you have 2 scenarios that play out.

The first is you draft a stud and trade him for a 1st or 2nd rounder(maybe more depending on how good he turns out and depending on where he was drafted).

The second is you let him learn under Brees for 2 years and then trade or cut Brees. Fact is Brees is NOT going to play forever and will likely only play another 5 at best. This would save us huge on the cap and if traded Brees could probably net us a 1st or 2nd even at his age from a team looking to win now.

I think the logical thing would be to wait 2 more years before drafting a QB, but you can't be stupid and pass on someone you have valued too highly above all others available just because you have someone there.

I have never posted on this board so I don't expect a warm welcome. I hope I am wrong but I think Brees has three good years at best. I would take a look at Murray to come in and learn. He should be a good pick in the third or fourth round. I don't think he will go any higher due to his injury.

There's no reason to draft one now as opposed to next year or the year after.

If you get a QB this year he'll be wanting his second contract by the time drews gone.

If Sean Payton wants to take a QB in the later rounds, he sees something in Brees and in the QB he wants.

And he wont be getting a huge 2nd contract without playing. Look at Chase Daniel.

Did we forget about Ryan Griffin? He was rostered to keep him from St. Louis, trying to pull another Mark Bulger on us. Shocked would be an understatement if we draft any QB. That being said I have been surprised by the home team years past. So

Some people are like "He wasn't drafted! He can't be good! We have to draft someone high or we'll be doomed!"

One guy told me that if we don't draft someone, and Brees gets hurt, we'll be screwed.
It's like...seriously?
Which team has a back-up QB just as good as the starter?

wrong this years draft is deep at QB in the later rounds. Next years may not be as deep
