FWD and towing stuff

I was looking at the Ford Explorer and it is FWD. Is FWD a real concern with towing anything? I would be getting around a 10' - 16' trailer to haul the occasional furniture, lawn mower or lumber for around the house projects. No boats or anything.
I wanted a truck, wife said no we need a SUV before a truck...

Ours is rated for 5k, so I don't think there's much to worry about it if it's occasional and light duty

My dad used a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker to pull a 22' bay boat for years. We would have to get it hoisted but it pulled it fine

At least get a Full Size SUV, have a little backbone.

I don't wanna pay $80 a week on gas

Is it really just wet ground or on ramps that's the problem?

It will be fine for the regular light stuff. Just make sure that you get the right "drop" to match your trailer height and you'll be alright.

What kinda of mpg does that explorer claim.
I have a Durango with AWD here in PA. Engine sizes are almost identical between it and the explorer. I average 19.5 mpg
Can't see the explorer breaking 24 even w/o awd

Yep. They are built on a unibody platform like most crossovers nowadays.
There are hardly any body-on-frame, rear wheel drive V6 SUVs now. Only one I can think of is the Toyota 4runner.
EDIT: Just remembered the Jeep Cherokee is a unibody design but is rear-wheel drive based. Check them out.

My other two choices. 4 Runner is at top.

looks like a grand cherokee/highlander mix

So the general consensus is that I'll be ok with the newer explorer if chosen

It'll pull a small trailer fine.
I believe alx has pulled a boat with one
