McCown’s not hitting it big like his brother Josh McCown in Tampa Bay, and isn’t there to start, but he does give the Saints some experience as a backup.

Good to hear. Also on PFT.

Oops.

Even at the vet min., I'd guess that leaves between 1 to 1.5 million in cap space.

Not sure how I feel about this. I like what McCown brings as a backup, but he's taking up a roster spot. I was just hoping that the coaches thought RG4 was ready to step up, but I guess not. At the end of the day, it's more important to have a backup qb you trust than an extra roster spot for another project.

I don't think he makes the roster. It is an insurance policy at this point, but I could be wrong with what they are paying him

He kind of blew it last season in big situations too. The hold vs. Seattle, the terrible pass vs. Carolina

I actually hope he doesn't make it because that would most likely mean they think Griffin is ready for the backup position. But I'm glad they got McCown back just in case.

What are they paying him? I'm just assuming the vet min. Is it more?

I figured this would happen. Doesn't hurt to bring him back for vet minimum just to have him in camp to compete with Griffin.

The cap implications are minor. He'll only cost $150,000 over the salary he is replacing(top 51 and vet minimum rules apply).

The hope would be for Griffin to beat him out but you should always have insurance.

More than that isn't it? He's a 10 year vet, so his minimum is $955,000. Griffin's minimum in comparison is $495,000.

Bottom guy he's replacing cost $420,000. Vet minimum rule states that anyone playing for vet minimum costs no more than $570,000 this year(with up to a $65,000 bonus allowed so up to $635,000 if he gets a bonus) despite what their cash value is.

So $570,000 - $420,000 = $150,000(I fricked up the number in my other post).

Same pic in 2015, just insert McCown & Griffin for Brunell and Daniel
