What's the OTs experience with CVT transmissions?

Downsizing to a car for a year or two. Looking at these CVT transmissions, and I'm not sure I'm sold. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
What is/are your knowledge/experiences on/with them?

I own a 2011 Nissan Altima SE-R (V6, 3.5 Liter version). My wife owns 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and chose this vehicle over more luxury vehicles because of the smoothness of the ride.
No issues whatsoever. One of the smoothest rides I have ever been in. Driving a rental car every week makes me appreciate the vehicle that I have.

Nissan and Honda use them specifically correct?

My wife has one in her vehicle. Still trying to get used to it.

Drove an Altima as a company car for 1.5 years, took a little getting used to. Now I own a 2013 Pathfinder. CVT gives you a very smooth acceleration. Sister has a Lexus with it and loves it.

Yes, as far as I know.

I believe the new Accord offers this in the 4 cylinder version. I can't speak to the other models.

It all depends on the manufacture. Saturn and Smart cars CVT transmissions suck. I believe toyota's are top notch. I don't have any experience with any of them, just what I read.

I drove a Nissan with one. It feels weird.

What's wrong with Red? Get a Prius
What's a CVT transmission? Don't feel like googling

Getting 10.2 mpg. I'm over that bitch

Continuously variable transmission.
You'd have to read up on it to really know what it is

Nissan and Toyota have no issues with theirs.

See I've read a good bit of reviews that the new Nissan Altimas have problems with them early on (sub 20k miles).

Wife had an 09 Maxima with the CVT transmission. We never had any issues out of it, actually it was great and very smooth. We traded the car in with less than 70K, so I don't know how well they hold up for the long haul.

my CVT on my 08 Altima went out last year and I found out Nissan had some issues with them. They extended the warranty to 10 years /120,000 miles which was pretty awesome since I got a new transmission for free. I think its only up to the 2010 models though, so maybe they fixed the issue with these newer ones
quote:
While Nissan is proud to offer this technology on many of our models, a small percentage of owners of early models equipped with CVTs have expressed concerns about the cost of repair of their transmissions after the warranty expires. We take these comments about the cost of vehicle ownership seriously. We strive to provide an exceptional ownership experience and are implementing a thorough Customer Satisfaction Program to address this topic.
First, to provide you with additional assurance regarding your overall cost of ownership we have doubled the warranty period for the Continuously Variable Transmission in your Nissan. The existing powertrain warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles will be extended at no cost to you, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I only buy manual transmissions, while I still can.

I have an accord with the CVT engine and I like it. I haven't had it long enough to give you a long term review but the first 20K miles have gone without a hitch
I will say that it drives differently but is much smoother acceleration like the poster ahead of me said

I'm up in the air on an Altima with it or a Fusion without it.
