Personally I don't like to watch people get cut up and mutilated. I know the shite is fake but I dont get how people can watch disturbing scenes of gore and blood. And the writers have to be disturbed individuals themselves.

There's a big difference between:

quote:

disturbing scenes of gore and blood.

and

quote:

horror

If you're talking about torture porn, then yeah, I agree to a point. But if you're talking about general horror, then I disagree.

I don't watch them because generally it's piss poor acting and a terrible script.

It is a travesty that The Exorcist and Saw are named in the same genre.

Right. So is that the question at hand?

Or are we going to get into why The Exorcist or Psycho or Halloween are important and/or great movies?

I don't even mind the torture porn genre or horror, but I fricking LOVE a good, solid, truly disturbing horror flick.

Horror is another form of fantasy. A chance to escape reality.

Poltergeist proves that a movie can be creepy/scary as phuck and not be R rated (too bloody or torture porn).

I have no interest in watching any of these types of films, but I'm not going to say they should be banned.

Misleading title then.

Films shouldn't be banned and I won't make any assumptions about people who enjoy it. I think people are less fascinated with the film and more fascinated with how they react to the film. It's about testing the limits of their own reactions and fear.

Horror movies are cinema's spicy foods.

I don't watch any of that extreme stuff and don't plan to. So I can't answer your question on those.

General horror films is a different story. It's not my favorite genre but the top films in it are very good (like the top films in pretty much any genre).

Stuff like Night of the Living Dead, Carrie, Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one), The Exorcist I can watch and enjoy. But if had to choose between an average horror film and an average film in say comedy, sci-fi, drama, or sports movies, I wouldn't gravitate towards the horror film.

Here's a question for the board - would you consider Jaws a horror film?
