Airport security removed the shrink wrapping on my new iPad

I had a brand new unopened iPad in my checked baggage. It was still in its shrink wrapping and I wanted to give it as a gift to someone. I just came home and opened my suitcase to find that they had gone through all my luggage and as soon as I picked up the iPad I knew it had been opened. WTH? This was supposed to be a gift. Do I have a case against the airline? Or is this an airport specific issue? Should I have brought the box with me in my cabin bag?

thank god bombs can't be shrink wrapped.

It's just the shrink wrap. I doubt the receiver of the gift will even care.

They'll think you got it from a pawn shop. FYL

TSA still don't care; played FlappyBird on your new iPad.

As much as I side with you, you probably don't have a case.
You should've taken it with you in your carry on bag. Explain the deal, they can x-ray if need be but they still may have ended up taking the wrap off anyway.
I don't think you can do much at this point. I think there's some clear wrap you can get and you can heat it with a hair dryer, gently, and it'll shrink wrap it.

Just be glad the iPad didn't go "missing".

You should call the airline and complain. May amount to nothing but you never know.

Why wouldn't you carry it on?
Sorry dumb mistake on your part

The airline customer service is closed on the weekend. The Airline upgraded me to first class which gave me a free check in bag. I may tell them if you didn't offer that, I may not have even checked in the bag. Let's see.

Maybe you can hook up with the guy buying & returning DVD's to Walmart and have him exchange it out for you

The airline upgraded me to first class which came with one free check-in bag. Other wise you have to pay $25 to check-in the bag. I never would paid $25 to just check-in a bag (at least on this trip). I would have just brought it into the cabin with me. In a way the airline by offering me the free upgrade lured me into checking in the bag which has led me to my present predicament.

What in the world does that have to do with the TSA removing shrink wrap from this new iPad?

Quit your fricking bitching... if you don't want your luggage to be checked, then ship it home or carry it on with you so you can be there as it's checked... Do you realize you are complaining about a fricking piece of plastic? Plastic!!!! They were trying to make sure you and everyone else on that plane made it to their destination safely and you want to bitch about plastic... God damn... I'd be happy to know they are doing their jobs.

I had a similar issue with an airline. The last leg of the trip back to Birmingham, they made me check my carry on bag in Memphis. I get off the plane and sure enough my nice camera had been stolen right out of my bag. I bitched my way up the chain until I was transferred to the director of security in Atlanta for Delta. I told them it was their fricking fault my shite was stolen and it was one of their shitty baggage handlers who did it. I had a check the next day and she sent me a nice hand written letter of apology.
