I bought this house as a foreclosure last year and the yard really turned to shite after it was vacant for two years. I'm sodding the front yard but am going to tackle the back by myself.

The grass is currently dead but as you can see the weeds are OOC.

Earlier this week I put some 25-2-5 on it. Some guy that works at a golf course told me to use it.

I want to kill these weeds before the grass starts to grow.

Any suggestions? Below is a picture of the backyard. The green is ALL weeds. The light color is the grass.

Instead of starting a new thread ill add to this one... First house, first yard and need help

First question... What kind of grass do I have? Cant tell if its centipede or st aug

What kind of weeds are these and what can I do about them? Is it too late since they have already come up?

Also I am planning on fertilizing/ weed and feed today, what would you use?

Bama, topdress is to fill small holes/dips with sand/river silt. You can sod a little on top or let the grass underneath come up.

The 25-x-x fertilizer is some hot shite to be putting down right now, thats about 90% nitrogen..

ILB - looks like weeds covering Bermuda. Kill the weeds and Bermuda will come back just fine.

Chick - looks like you have St Augustine. The weed is poa annua. Get some image nutheass killer and it will kill it. It will also die out with warm weather but will come back thicker next year.

I think that's centipede. Pull up a little and see if it looks like vines.

What do you recommend? I'd like to use a spray.

why are you putting so much nitrogen down when the grass is dead? that's just a waste of money

looks like we've had our last freeze, so you should be fine with a weed and feed now, but I'd wait a couple weeks to a month to be sure

Weed n feed are 2 different operations that are performed at different times for most warm season grasses. Weed is usually late Feb to early March. Feed is in may.

This all varies based on the type of grass as well.

put a high nitro fertilizer later in the season when you really want to green it up and you've gotten rid of all your weeds.

if your lawn is dead and you've got weeds everywhere, any post emergent should work, but I can't see the pic in the OP to recommend specific chemicals other than 2, 4 D
