It's one of the most evenly matched games.

You have borderline-ranked teams facing the best of the mid-majors/conference champions.

12 seeds are usually small conference championship winners, and most of them are way better than a 12 seed and should be around 6 or 7 seed.

Because the committee always puts the good teams with bad schedules as 12s

Talent gap is negligible between middle-of-the-pack power conference teams and mid-major champs.

Different conferences bro.

Teams in bad conferences overrated.

Teams in bad conferences underrated.

Teams in good conferences overrated.

Teams in bad conferences overrated.

Three point shots going in.

Three point shots not going in.

Or a major conference team that underachieved.

I feel personally it's because that's the perfect range on the curve. 12 seeds are usually very underrated small schools, because well, they're small schools. 5 seeds are usually the more overrated teams, in OU's case(who was terribly over-seeded) because if conference rep. Usually teams on the cusp of being alright but not bad enough to be a double digit seed so they get the benefit of the doubt.

Cheap shot, for sure. LSU doesn't even know that there is a NCAA Tournament.

Like others have said, its usually a mid major teams thats pretty damn good vs a major conference team that was decent or over rated because of conference
