The NFL is now proposing to move the Kickoffs to the 40 yd line. They will be discussing the measure with the owners at the next meeting.

This is utterly ridiculous....if you are going to take this measure under the guise of player safety; then you might as well cease all kickoffs.

I hate Roger Goddell.

It was Dan Snyder and the Redskins who proposed this, not Goodell.

Then he is an idiot as well!

They are attempting to remove one of the most exciting plays in all of sports, and take jobs away from players.

yup

although I have a love hate relationship with Snyder. Dude is a prick that I can't stand and does shite like this, yet I love how he keeps fighting the stupid professional activists about changing the team's name. Stick with fighting professional activists, Snyder, and leave football to the men.

If thats the case, Saints should onsides kick every time with the type of defense we will have this year. So what if we give them the ball on their own 45 or the 50.

Ok not really but I would imagine you might see more onsides kicks.

And less surprising ones paying off like it did for us in the Superbowl...

The front line's main objective should be to play the onsides if they move the ball to the 40. Every kicker in the NFL can put it through the uprights there with a 10 yard running start

Except Hartley

In reality thought it could actually mean more kick off returns. With the ball at the 40, teams front lines would have to play the onside a lot more forcing them to not bail so quickly to go block.
Kickers would then try and sky kick it with a ton of hang time getting it to land inside the 5. Think about it. With everyone running sub 5 40's than a high kickoff with 5 second hang time would put your coverage team within the 15-20 by the time the returner would catch it at the 2-5. This would give teams a better chance of making the opposing team start inside the 20.

I think it would make it more exciting than the 35
At the same time, yes kickers could get it in the end zone frequently

It would be especially funny if they did this now that the stupid Falcons just signed Hester.

I would imagine the statistics would back doing an onside kick almost every single time, unless up by a good margin

the NFL is so fricking retarded.

TD
review
xp
timeout
guaranteed touchback
timeout

There is like 10 minutes between a TD and something exciting happening again

Remember, every year; you are watching the best NFL product there will ever be. It is slowly deteriorating every year.

Skip forward 10 yrs, I don't even want to think about what the game will unfortunately look like. It's really sad actually.

Last year was the worst year I can remember as far as ref's controlling outcomes in games with the random roughing and unprotected hit calls, and I really feel like I'm not just saying this because it's its fresh in my mind.
