Wow MM killed it. He earned that Oscar. Great movie.
Don't understand why it isn't getting more negative attention like Captain Phillips did. Especially when Rayon and Jennifer Garner were not real people. But oh well still an unbelievable performance from MM

Negative attention in the way that it wasn't a completely factual movie...

Thought MM performance was outstanding, but the overall movie had sort of a John Q feel to it. Became more of a documentary pushing a political agenda than a movie.

i think the amount of flack a movie receives for its inaccurate portayal of events is directly proportional to how much it bills itself as a true story
and adding characters or changing/combining characters is a bit different when it comes to these things as well

I'd hardly call that political. it's basically textbook story telling

whatever, it wasn't the first movie to change things. The difference between it and captain Phillips, is that CP was a lot fresher with the details being pretty well known.

only he didn't really do that in real life. he found a way to keep himself alive and make money off those other people (not love them for who they are) the man's own family talked about what a a-hole he was and how he even ripped them off

I'm not taking anything away from either movie. They were both great Hollywood films. Everytime I mention how Captain Phillips was a great movie, people immediately say it wasn't real. When I mention DBC they say oh that was such a great movie.

just reading more about the real life woodruff. he never rode a bull in his life but was a rodeo enthusiast. Also several close friends including nurses and doctors who took care of him for a long time claim he was bi-sexual. he had an ex-wife and daughter and apparently still maintained a friendship with the ex wife until death.
Funny how much they change the story to fit a nice little political agenda.
Hey, it was a good movie though. I enjoyed the performances.

I thought the film would be more about the man and less about the movement. I still liked it a lot though.

I liked the movie. But I thought the first half was immensely better than the 2nd half. One it hits about an hour in, it becomes much less fluid of a story and IMO tries to do too many things at once.
Overall, I'd give the movie a C+. First half solid A, 2nd half D. Doubt I'll watch again, but would recommend to anyone to give it a watch.

It was a great movie but they did take a few liberties (as HW always does). The first I noticed was expansive old-school oil fields seemingly right in Dallas or nearby.
The reality of Dallas' "alternative scene" is pretty accurate though. It's one of the great paradox's of the big D and image to outsiders.
There is a documentary on the old Starck club due out soon that hits at this as well (same time period, actually).

Argo didn't get much negative attention, and it was pretty much fictional. Based on true events gives a lot of leeway.
