The engine note is terrible.
2013 vs 2014 F1 Engine noise
And most of the cars are fugly. The Ferrari is particularly bad IMO:
Hope things improve for next season.

If you've got 10 minutes watch this. Interesting take on the new F1 rules and the 2014 World Endurance Championship.
is it still racing if efficiency over race distance is such a huge concern?

Dont know jack about F1, how did they change it? Made it mandatory green or something?

Engines have gone from shrieking naturally aspirated 750 HP 2.4L V8s with an 18,000 RPM limiter to 600 hp 1.6L turbocharged V6s. The powertrain is also much heavier with hybrid tech as they added another layer of energy recuperation by using the turbo itself to charge the onboard battery. Each car gets 33 seconds per lap of a 160-hp battery boost to make up the difference in power from last year's engines, when they only got 6 seconds of electric urge per lap. The front wing is smaller than last year, so there's less downforce, and each car is limited to 100 kg of fuel per race. Those are the most visible changes, anyway.

So in other words the fricking green hippie liberals got to it and bent it over with no lube. Thank God for NASCAR.
454 SS big block power all the way.

There would be an uproar in the fan base.
Saw the Fury movie a couple weeks ago, like it, them bastards are crazy going that fast in them frickers. Your basically in a 750hp go cart.

The biggest change is a lot of cars look like they have a dildo on the front.

I've been steadfastly trying to ignore that ever since Mclaren's MP4-29 broke out the first dicknose.

They're getting 600 hp from a 1.6L engine? That is pretty impressive

They keep trying to slow them down and the engineers keep stepping up their game.

Why on earth would they want to that, its racing, faster the better.

A former Mclaren mechanic was saying that if there was enough cause for it the engineers could change the engines to sound a bit mnore like the old style, but thought that after a while people would just move on like they do every year after changes

I don't know. The roar of the engines is part of the appeal of racing, even for Europeans.

I could get 600hp out of a 1.8L Honda motor with a big enough turbo, although I wouldn't achieve the fuel efficiency, reliability, or power band of an F1 motor. You should be much more impressed by the naturally aspirated motor. You're not going to find anyone that can build you a motor to turn 18000 rpm on the street.
Besides the 1.5L BMW M12 4 cylinder (F1 motor from the 80's) could be turned up to 1000+hp for qualifying runs. It's pictured above.
