Is the DNC recruiting Libertarian candidates to defeat Republicans?

It seemed to work in the 2012 Virginia Governor's Race:
McAuliffe (D) - 48.0
Cuccinelli (R) - 45.5
Sarvis (L) - 6.6
Not so much in the Florida 13 Congressional Race:
Jolly (R) - 48.4
Sink (D) - 46.8
Overby (L) - 4.8
In most elections there's no way that a Libertarian vote is getting anywhere near a candidate with a D behind their name. Hopefully there are more results like Florida 13 to give the DNC and their supporter pause for carrying out this strategy.

If they aren't, it would be stupid of them not to employ it this time around.
A viable libertarian candidate in any of the swing races could throw a wrench in taking over the Senate.

seems like it'd be a good idea much of the time

If it's an establishment republican then people would be better off voting libertarian.

It's a double edged sword IMO... I think in some races the libertarian syphons votes away from the democrat
Libertarians in my opinion vote primarily on social issues of drugs and same sex marriage first and economic issues take the backseat.

It wouldn't work in states that have election laws like La, right?

Look for Soros funded (I)libertarian candidates to try to save the Senate, Dems can't win on their records.

They need to be exposed.

Of course they are;.
What pisses me off is that so many 'libertarians' vote their 'principles' and thus do the bidding of the DNC to ensure another 40 years of DEM stranglehold on America.
All because the GOP is not 'perfect.'
pathetic.

If there is one thing likely to cause your garden variety Libertarian to hurl insults at you and get really agitated and indignant, it is to suggest he is unintentionally implicit in maintaining The Barack Obama/Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid Washington Power Triumvirate. That is why a pragmatic guy like me would never mention that to my ideologically pure Libertarian friends.

That's why I evangelize libertarian principles and vote practically. I'd rather see the libertarians take over the Republican party...kind of what Rand is doing now.

GOP needs to pre-empt it by getting its Senate challengers to oppose warrantless spying and drone strikes and call for scaling back the War on Drugs. Steal the Libertarian thunder on social issues so the debate is over the failed Democrat economic policies.

meh, screw the last two repub options at president

Nothing wrong with that. Maybe the GOP should have thought of that long ago.

How about the Republicans start listening to the Libertarians before they lose a huge chunk of their voting base?

Why do I feel like an establishment repub wont help us actually reverse the damage done?

It sounds like to me the establishment is blaming someone else for their own problems. Maybe it's time for them to take responsibility

Because there is not much difference between an establishment Republican and a Democrat. In fact you can hear the cries coming from the Karl Rove camp right now, "we need to fix Obamacare".
The establishment Republicans don't want a smaller government they just feel like they can manage government better than the Democrats.

This is true, they don't oppose big government or spending they just want to be the ones controlling the purse
I consider myself an economic libertarian and a state's rights libertarian on social issues. Drugs, abortion, gay marriage, etc. should be states issues. But that is not enough for some people.

I dunno - maybe you are just not very smart.
Maybe you want to fell all superior to other people.
Maybe you think this is a game that can be reset back to some benign starting point when it gets too far gone.
Who knows why people do irrational things.
IF you think that ANY GOPer would not be an improvement over ANY DEM then you are not a student of history.
Just think of the course of the Supreme Court if nothing else. = Another 8 years of DEM appointees, and what shred that is left of the constitution will be completely destroyed.
We need to work as hard as we can to get the 'right' candidates nominated via the primary process.
But if we are not 100% successful, then we should not just shrug our shoulders and pat ourselves on the back saying "well - I stood by my principles. I voted for a libertarian who got 3 percent of the vote and the DEM won by .5% - hooray for me."
We can at least try to slow the train on the way to the cliff and not add steam to the engine on the way over.
I am ashamed of what our great nation has become.
pathetic.
