Talked about it on Sportscenter a week or so ago. I think he was pretty much just bored in retirement or something.

With that said I can't believe they didn't get in. Weren't they ranked like a week or 2 ago? And now they're not top 68?

It's a perfect fit considering everything.

I'm sure those two together will have no problem getting players, if you know what I mean.

He has a pretty good class coming in next year. I would not be surprised to see them start making noise the next couple of years

He is the best coach alive right now. It was ashame the real Olympic team in 2000 didn't go. But he wont be there much longer, he is like Parcells and Johnson, burns out quick.

Not so sure about that...I wouldn't consider SMU a high-pressure job.

Yeah but basketball recruiting is ridiculous. Biggest reason Tubby Smith fell off at Kentucky was that he didn't want to put the effort in required to recruit at a high level.

He will be there another 3-4 years atleast.

Not a bad area to live in. Very little chance he would ever get fired, unless something drastic happened. Good facilities, in an okay not bad conference.

With the DFW area being so talent rich, does not have to travel far to recruit, and will his whole persona is not hard, to get guys to want to play for him.

His daughter is also going there, and he said he wants to see her graduate.

Good deal for both parties IMO.

I am from Mississippi, and it is what happens here and in other states. High school coaches that have been at big schools for years, been very successful, "retire" from public schools and then coach smaller private schools for two checks, similar situation with Brown and SMU.

i think the plan is for him to coach like 3-5 more years (we all know how hard it is for him to stay in one place though) and then hand the reigns to tim jankovich.

Because he is a nomad and one of the best coaches ever, on any level. Thought for sure they would get in.

His daughter is in college? Isn't Brown like 80?

I was a student at Illinois State when Jankovich coached there. Had a couple solid recruits Nic Moore (enjoy him) and Jackie Carmichael. Lots of misses. He can't schedule for shite. Always schedules terrible teams OOC and pays for it come March.

Brown chose to play Jefferson, Odom, and Starbury over LeBron, Carmelo, and Amare.

According to a local (Dallas) news piece on him, it was felt by many that he was too old to coach again. SMU wasn't interested in him but June Jones, SMU's football coach, kept pushing the AD to interview Brown for the BB opening.

Some Dallas radio station says Myles Turner(#2 recruit) is close to committing to SMU but his family denies that.

I was hoping lsu would hire him when they hired Johnny jones. He could have stayed here a few years, while grooming a protege to take over when he retired.
