Dr James Andrews

Dr James Andrews should eventually be voted into both the Baseball Hall of Fame AND the NFL Hall of Fame. He would not be a typical inductee to either, but his induction is nonetheless deserved.
What this man has accomplished in sports medicine has been unbelievable. He has lengthened the careers of scores of players of both sports, many of them Hall of Famers, themselves. 30/35 years ago, if you tore your ACL, it was over for you. Prognosis of ever playing again was zero. Nowdays, it is common for a player to get back on the field. Same with the Tommy John surgery Andrews has revolutionized and perfected.

He's got it sowed up. His resume alone makes the cut.

BTW, I looked it up: There is a guy who is in both Halls. His name was Cal Hubbard, who was a fooball player, and a baseball umpire. Andrews should be the second person in both Halls.

So, I know HOF's have owners/administrators/players/coaches/officials, even announcers. I think Dr. Andrews is certainly qualified as much as some of the ones who are there already.

and he's an LSU alum who won an SEC title in pole vaulting for the Tigers

On a related note, Dr. Frank Jobe, inventor of the 'Tommy John' surgery, passed away earlier this week.

Couldn't disagree more. I work in the orthopedic field. It is well known he is no better than most of you local ortho surgeons. He isnt even that good with his hands. He just came at right time and beautifully mastered the marketing part of his practice. The entire professional athlete medical field is agent based. He marketed "salesman" perfectly to the agents

He's a consultant for bama and the redskins.....co medical director for auburn

So, what you're saying is your jelly?
In all seriousness though, even if he is a good marketer, he has lengthened the careers of plenty of athletes.

Jealous - Hell yeah, wish I had his private planes, med centers
However, many people could have lengthened those careers. He doesnt even perform the cases, his residents/fellow do. But clever to control/market the agent driven industry of athletic injuries.

If Andrews goes to the Hall, shouldn't the guy who invented steroids also go in? That guy lengthened a lot more careers than Andrews did.

Kinda weird that he isn't the official team doctor for LSU. I know his office is in Bham and so that makes Auburn and Alabama likely candidates. But if he can make the effort for the Skins why not LSU?

If he/his fellow practitioners were not doing good work the best of the best would not go to him. He's definitely doing something right.

I would put in Dr. Frank Jobe before Andrews.

For the love of God. this...
The greatest athletes in the country wouldn't go to to the guy if he was simply a good marketer. Their ligaments, labrums, etc are worth 10s to hundreds of millions of dollars. They're not just going to go to a guy.

most of LSU's injured players end up under his knife anyway, so why does it matter?
