Winning culture brought Byrd to NOLA

"If you're a guy on defense and you know a team is able to get leads on people, jump out to early leads, that bodes well for guys like me who want to get turnovers and create turnovers because it makes another team one dimensional. That's a really big factor and what allowed me to weigh all my options and think about what the best situation was for myself."

Byrd didn't reveal too many details about how the deal came together so quickly. He said his agent Eugene Parker and Saints contract negotiator Khai Harley worked out the finer points.
But Byrd said he made the choice to make his first visit to New Orleans because of how much he liked the potential fit.
Byrd said he hadn't had a chance to talk specifics with new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan yet (they were planning to meet shortly after his conference call once Ryan and coach Sean Payton returned from Alabama's pro day). But Byrd said he got a good firsthand impression of the Saints' defense when the Bills lost to New Orleans 35-17 in Week 8 last season.
"Just from watching, it seems aggressive and attacking," said Byrd, who also liked the impression he got from New Orleans' home-crowd atmosphere in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
"That was big. Playing here last year, I saw how the atmosphere was. It was electric," Byrd said. "They're really behind their team. The Dome was rocking when I was here. They feed off that, and I think that's really big. Anytime you're playing football on defense you always want to have that noise. That's big."

Really Byrd? A winning culture? No one else was going to pay you that much. I was laughing when I saw how fast the Saints jumped at you. I hope Saints fans are reasy for the Jairus Byrd ESPN highlights didn't show you. His inability to read and react to offenses. His interception or nothing style of play. Look how many touchdowns the Bills gave up last year where Byrd was burnt on the play. He has always looked good in the highlights and that has got him paid. But he is a liability on offense. That combined with his crappy attitude is why the Bills didn't try as hard as many thought they should to bring him back. Dude, its the Bills.... THEY DIDN'T TRY HARD TO BRING YOU BACK!! That is very telling.

its like...no one really looks at things
we released greer, vilma, harper, smith, and let jenkins walk. of those 5, only 3 saw significant action. so far, jenkins is the only one with a job.
we still have the same MLBs (vilma played what, 20 snaps?)
We are taking a 7mil hit on jimmy right now. We can pay him fine.

What I find telling is how many snaps Humber got(155) and how few Reddick got(15). Vilma in one game had almost as many as Reddick.
Early on Herring was the main backup ILB and he finished with only 40. Guess that ended quickly.
Good thing for us Humber decided to come back. I think he has a chance to actually replace Hawthorne this year.
Not sure if I'm misremembering, but it seemed in the later part of the season especially that Humber was getting more snaps and Hawthorne fewer(not less than Humber, but fewer than his normal amount).
I also think it's possible Bush could have eventually replaced Harper had we kept him this season.
If we can bring back Haralson I think we have all the important(and still healthy) defensive pieces from last year.

Lol...Hawthorne isn't that good? He wasn't an every down player(70% of the total snaps) and seemed to play a little less in the last few games. He graded poorly on PFF.
Humber is faster and covers better, not to mention cheaper. Given a chance I think he can pass Hawthorne on the depth chart.

Vilma was probably our best LB in years, and Fujita was above average. Outside of that Haslett, despite being a great LB, sure in the frick couldn't pick or coach em.
And yeah despite Lofton playing almost every down, he is very inconsistent at times and very poor in coverage. I knew the second part and Atlanta fans said as much laughing at the signing, but man he is just too slow to be on the field in those spots.

I have to think Lofton would be better off being paired with someone like Mosley.

not exactly...but definitely one of the best in franchise history. we can definitely improve in the middle and stop leaking against so many damn runs
