I know it depends on what you get...but I'm trying to determine the range...so how much and for what?

we did granite tile, bought it on sale, installed it ourselves and we were right about $700 including sink, and tile saw rental.
but it was 5 days of really tough work, would not do again.

Not if you don't want counters to patina. Then you're arse backwards.

Current counters are heart of pine and stainless.
Next counters will be stainless steel or powdercoated carbon steel.
Saw it in a cabin we booked in utah...utilitarian, but looks ridiculously good. And no issues with staining.

I just do not understand people who post this kind of stuff on here. Why don't you pick up the damn phone.

$5K for granite. Love it. There are other great options but we like the stone we chose.

I thought about starting a thread about this yesterday so I guess I'll just post this in here...
What is the deal with granite counter tops? Why would someone spend thousands of dollars on them?
Not trying to knock anyone for doing so, I just don't get it.

Many different types of stone to choose from. Classic look. Durability and little to no maintenance required.
Had Corian before and it cracked from heat. No heat issues with granite.

I'd love to get rid of the stupid ceramic tile countertops in my house. Why was that ever a good idea?
But I'm trying to decide how long I will actually live there before I drop $6k on granite.
