I really want to go since it's only about an hour away and I love purple haze. Anyone ever toured it, was it worth going?

Its a legit brewery tour complete with lots of free samples and a gift shop.

Go when it's cool out, because it can get hot in a brewery.

It's not a very long tour at all, although it may be a bit longer now with all their expansion over the last couple years. Most people don't go for the actual tour though. Best part of the "tour" is when it's over you get to sit in their tasting room (i.e. The Bar) and drink from about a dozen taps with fresh Abita Beer. There's usually 1 or 2 of their current Select Series brews on tap also (special brews made in very limited quantities and only distributed to select bars to serve on tap) .

The good thing is the beer is free. I've toured other breweries and they usually give you a couple of free beers. At Abita, it's all free.
The bad thing is the tour is kinda dull. They show you a couple of marketing DVDs, then take you in the brewery. When I went, the woman leading the tour was real small, so you couldn't hear anything she said.

tl; dr: go for free beer, not expecting to learn a lot on the tour

Abita is a mediocre line of beer.

Turbodog is my favorite from Abita. YMMV.

Tours are boring, best thing is the samples and if they offer a special tasting. I know at Lazy Mag they let us sample a bourbon aged beer they were gonna release

Parish tour was the worst one I was on, guy did nothing but point to machines and say, "we brew Canebrake here" their tap room is pretty awesome though

Special brews and or fresh on tap sounds like a legit way to spend a few hours

it is a 1 hour deal. They have several tours lined up back to back, and you can only do one per day. Make plans to do something else afterwards, like a day trip to New Orleans. Just be sure to empty your bladder before getting on the Causeway. That ride can be very miserable very easily.
