"Malcolm Jenkins has heard the criticism. Playing for New Orleans in 2012, Jenkins was one of three safeties in the NFL to miss more than 20 tackles, according to Pro Football Focus. Last season, the former first-round draft pick was one of nine safeties to miss more than 15."
"Tackling isn't his strong suit."
You don't say?
I like his reply.
""The biggest thing I need to work on: tackling," Jenkins said Wednesday night after meeting his new coach, Chip Kelly, for the first time at the Philadelphia Eagles' South Philadelphia training complex.
But, Jenkins added, "I don't see that as a problem" moving forward."

He's someone else's problem now.

I really felt like he was a decent tackler, it was his geometry that was horrible. He was just alway so out of position that he would have to contort himself to get hands on the guy.
It might have to do something with the fact that he played a different position all his life, and didnt gain the skills of coming downhill on guys like that
but I suppose pursuit could be considered part of "tackling"

No his tackling technique was atrocious. He either shoulder dove or tried to reach arm tackle.
He rarely used his body or wrapped up. And missed tackles are only counted if you make contact. So at 35+ misses in 2 years, that's god awful. Add in when he took bad angles and

Hate to break it to you, visualizing the tackle is one of the base fundamentals of tackling. It gets better the longer you play, and the angle that you judge to put yourself in a better position to tackle is just part of it. Add in momentum, arm strength, grip, and your overall mental quickness are all parts of tackling. Sucking at any one of of those things means you are usually a bad tackler. Jenkins was effing terrible at tackling. Period. The only standout things he's done in NO outside of his flashy rookie season at corner was catching up to that receiver in the Tampa Bay game in 2012 and his efforts in that goal line stand against Atlanta (I think it was them). Definitely not worth $5m.

shite tackling he might want to cover a tightend when a team needs it.

Covering anything... too many times I've seen him completely out of position to make a play on the receiver. He had one play this season where he pelted some receiver and got a flag for it - that was probably the best play I've seen him make.
Edit: it was the Patriots game, middle of the 3rd Q.

Didn't he strip the Dallas WR of the ball to save the game that one time.

Yeah, I'm sure he's had more outstanding plays than the ones I've listed. I don't remember that one in particular.

yeah, he sure did. That was a 2010 Thanksgiving day game. He also made a highlight reel play against Tampa in 2012. Trouble is, other than those plays and a scarce few others, he has been a mediocre starting NFL safety.

One of my least favorite Saints to ever watch was Jenkins. Never lived up to his potential or maybe was just overrated from the start.

He has the potential to correct himself

shite he was beat for the TD then but the cowgirls or going to be the cowgirls. Roy Williams started to celebrate before he got to the end zone and Jenkins cauht him from behind and stripped it.

Do you remember that horrible whiff Sharper had on Addai's long first half run in the Super Bowl? That was foreshadowing what Jenkins would be for us.

yup, nhe was drafted right in his projected range.
He was a player, just average at best. If he would have been a 3rd or 4th Rd draft pick I would have had no complaints.
After some of the past second contracts I was pretty fearful they would re-sign him. Philly can have his positional flexibility and bowties. Drew gets to pick on him in 2015 in philly if he sticks.

He was a big corner coming out o OSU. If he was to stay at corner he was going to have to play in a cover 2 scheme like in Tampa now or Chicago then. But he is a safety and can't read his angles right that hurts him on top of that he is slow to react. Byrd ran a slower time in the combine but his instincts and reaction times or faster so he can be a ball hawk. Hate is a strong word but he was not a good fit any scheme for us. You will have to have a veteran safety to get him lined up to help him make plays. If Philly plays him in the slot he will be let go by next year.

I posted on my friends timeline "You guys signed Jenkins. I'm really sorry." The guy is a utility player. He's not starting caliber.

Right and they paid him good starter money. I was worried with all the cap room they had plus already being a playoff team, but boy did they just waste a chunk of it.
