Can a player get the fanchise tag for 2 years in a row?
can we tag Jimmy again next year and trade him if we can afford him, or is he gone?

Pretty sure a guy can be tagged up to 3 times, but the guy gets more money every time; it doesn't even have to be consecutive years or (as we saw with Brees) on the same team.

i can see us keeping him tagged (not working out a contract this year) and tagging him next year and shopping him if we draft a Tight End this year.

I think the 3rd time is another 50%. So that'd be $12-13m. So we'd stop after 2.

But theoretically the Saints could franchise him 2 more times. Next would be 120% and 3rd year would be 144% (I think).
I don't see that happening btw. Really depends on if Jimmy somehow gets an arbitrator to designate him as a WR. Then no way the Saints pay him $12+ mil/season.
All said, Jimmy is going to sign a LT contract at $10 mil or so. Or be traded.
