Crawfish season expected to be best in years

Last year, the harsh winter made crawfish burrow. Quantities were low and prices were high. The opposite is expected for this season.

This is a good sign if my pond needs to cycle through a year or so to establish a catchable population. If that's the case, at least it got started on a good note.

I think too much cow shite messed up the water quality. It never produced an eatable sized crawfish.

I moved my operation to another low spot on some property we own that doesn't have cattle. We caught a few native reds in there but not many total pounds of crawfish for the length of soak in commercial traps. I dropped the ball on stocking it last year. Hope to drop a sack in there at the end of the season when prices come down.

Eta: I'm also easing my way in to get rights to fish the pond in my sig pic. It's fished commercially, but I had a few drinks with the person that owns it and asked if he'd mind if I bought my son down to run some nets from the bank.
