What does LSU have to do in the SECT to make post season play in Basketball?

only one possibly for the NCAA tourney, win the SEC tourney, I don't think we have enough quality wins to not win the SEC tourney and make it.
do we have to win at-least one to make the NIT or are we in no matter how many we win (other than winning the tourney)

Nit we have to make it to the ship.....they are probably only taking 2 from the SEC Georgia and Ole Miss IMO

A win over Alabama will have us on the NIT bubble IMO, I think we squeeze in.
A loss to bama and we are out IMO.
A win vs Bama and Kentucky = NIT lock

I don't believe the NIT will take 4 SEC teams which they would have to do for LSU to be an NIT lock.

Who are the 3 you have above LSU?
Posted on 3/11/14 at 10:22 pm to josh336
Seeds 4, 5 & 6 in the SEC tourney.

I personally think Tennessee is getting in the dance.
Mizzou, Georgia, Ole Miss, and LSU compete for the NIT.
IF we win 2 games in the tourney, I think we get in.
Not sure how anyone could compare LSU and Ole Miss's resume and put them in over LSU.

Well, maybe not. I def think we get by bama. Getting by kentucky, but im calling that a tossup game. We matchup with them well

Already given out 8 (out of 13 conference tourneys) auto bids to NIT (win regular season, lose tournament). Has me really worried.

and what is your reason for thinking this?

I'm going to watch and pull for them to win but not getting my hopes up. Team hasn't won 3 in a row since December. No reason why it would happen this weekend.

Last year, the NIT took 3 teams. Kentucky, Alabama, and Tennessee all had RPI in the upper 50's. The next closest possibility was LSU.
The NIT passed on LSU, whose RPI was 86 and who at the time was 19-12, had gone 9-9 in league play, and was 1-1 in the SEC tournament. 4 teams with worse RPI were chosen ahead of LSU to go to the NIT: Washington (88), Arizona State (89), Providence (90), and St. John's (94)
Right now, LSU has an RPI of 74, is 18-12, and went 9-9 in league play. A loss to Alabama (RPI 115) would be very damaging, in my opinion.
The bracketing for the NIT last year often made NO sense based on RPI.
For example, Florida State was a 4 seed in their region and Louisiana Tech was a 5 seed. Florida State's RPI was 84, while Tech's was 54.
Point being, it is very hard to project what the NIT is going to do.
Here is some hard data from last year and this year.
